On May 6, the official opening of the ABII Specialist Medical Foundation Batibo took place. Batibo is one of the villages in the Northwest Region of Cameroon.
It is located on the road from Bamenda to Ekok, the border with Nigeria and is approximately 50 km away from the regional capital Bamenda with approximately 120,000 inhabitants.
The head of the Batibo region is Fon Mba Roger the 2nd. A Fon is a king or chief. He resides in a palace and governs with a Traditional Council elected by the population.
They were present at the opening. As were all the pastors from the region of various religious communities. The traditional healer was also present. Also present was the deputy of the subdivision representative. He could not come himself, because his presence would attract the rebels from the jungle to attack the hospital later. The hospital staff visited him in his office. The deputy complimented the hospital board on the new aid possibilities and congratulated the population. The hospital has now become a refuge for aid for the entire Moghamo tribe and of more significance than just for the village of Batibo.
It was a festive event for the entire region.
The hospital services include a general consultation for surgery and ophthalmology. The latter is also provided by Dr. Tebid's wife. She is an ophthalmologist.
The hospital staff is considering adding nutrition and health education to the services, because the population very often has health complaints that are related to poor nutrition and lack of information.
The Fon and the Traditional Council greatly appreciate the help of the Medic Foundation, the equipment gift to the ABII. They sincerely thank the Medic Foundation for its great willingness to always want to help them.
